Living with Aphasia

My name is Olivia, and I am the caregiver for my husband Gary. Gary has aphasia from a stroke he had in 2013; since then, life has been a journey. As a family, we experience communication challenges but have found that our grandchildren are the greatest asset to us for improvement of his speech. Every day gives hope for new words, gestures, something new to better communicate with others.

A good book for caregivers released from the National Aphasia Association is titled, The Aphasia Caregiver Guide: Advice for Navigating Aphasia and Your Loved One’s Care without Losing Yourself on the Journey.

If you use these seven tips to guide your communication with your loved one, you’ll find that a lot can be communicated, even when you’re dealing with aphasia.

The Aphasia Caregiver Guide is available to download as a PDF for free from the National Aphasia Association website or for purchase through Amazon as a paperback or e-book. Click HERE to download for free.

Please help the individuals who are living with this challenging disorder.
