VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: HARLEY

This year, we were thrilled to offer our first $1,000 scholarship for study in the field of aphasia. We are excited to introduce our first scholarship recipient – Harley!

I began volunteering at Friends of Aphasia in the summer of 2019. Over the course of a year, I worked my way from participating in group sessions to eventually facilitating them, one of which included a group I led in Spanish. I also became an intern which allowed me to see the inner workings of a non-profit organization and participate in outreach geared towards aphasia awareness. I will be forever grateful to the Aphasia Center and the aphasia community for giving me the chance to learn more about what it means to live with aphasia and for their support with my academic endeavors. I gained skills that I will be able to use in my future career as a Speech-Language Pathologist, as I am officially a University of Arizona Wildcat! I survived the first few months of school and am so excited for what the remaining 3 years of my master’s program will bring. Bear down!
